About the Athlete Panel
The England Athletics Athlete Panel is a representative body that connects the athlete community with the England Athletics Board and Senior Leadership Team. Established to ensure that the athlete voice is embedded in key decisions, the Panel provides insight, feedback, and challenge on matters that directly impact athletes across our sport.
Purpose of the Role
Athlete Panel Members play a vital role in shaping the direction of athletics in England by:

Championing the athlete voice and ensuring it informs EA policy, planning, and operational delivery.

Providing insight into athlete experience across membership, participation, domestic competition, national championships, international representation, and talent pathways.

Offering feedback on EA programmes and activities, and making recommendations for improvement.

Supporting the development of more inclusive, engaging, and sustainable competition and participation opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the Athlete Panel, you will:

Provide constructive feedback on decisions and proposals that impact athletes.

Seek input from athletes across England to ensure diverse and representative views inform Panel discussions (ensuring confidentiality and anonymity).

Make recommendations that support positive change in athlete experience and competitive structures.

Attend and contribute to a minimum of four meetings per year (online or in person).

Serve as an independent observer at selection meetings when required.

Represent the athlete voice at EA events where appropriate.
-
Support formal reporting to the EA Board at least once per year.
Person Specification
-
Minimum five years’ experience competing in athletics at any level.
-
Experience training within a club environment.
-
Experience competing in agegroup, county, regional, or national leagues (track & field and/or cross country).

Representation of one of the identified event groups or pathways (e.g., sprints, endurance, throws, paraathletics).

Ability to contribute informed, constructive insight and support collaborative discussion.
-
Commitment to fairness, integrity, and supporting the development of the sport.
Term & Commitment

Appointments are for up to two years, with the possibility of reappointment for a second term.
-
Approx. 4 meetings per year, plus optional attendance at events or working groups.
-
Members must attend at least two meetings per year to remain on the Panel.

The role is voluntary; reasonable travel expenses can be claimed according to the EA volunteer expenses policy.
Online Interviews take place w/k commencing 23rd March 2026.
